Agnes "Becky" R. Smith

Agnes R. “Becky” Smith, 90, a resident of the Presbyterian Home, Hollidaysburg formerly of Claysburg and Sproul, passed away Sunday October 7, 2018 at UPMC-Altoona. She was born May 2, 1928 in Claysburg, daughter of the late Thomas and Maggie (Claar) Sell. She married Earl S. “Buck” Smith on February 13, 1947 at the Claysburg Church of the Brethren. He passed away September 16, 1989.

Surviving are two sons Stanley Craig and wife Carolyn of King and Jon and wife Teresa of Claysburg, a daughter Cathy Burk of East Freedom and a granddaughter Kirsten, who grew up in her home. Becky was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

Becky was preceded in death by a daughter Karen Smith, a great grandson Ryan Claar and a great granddaughter Brooklin Kay Kawtoski.

One of 13 Children, Becky was the last child in her immediate family. She was preceded in death by brothers Burdine, Simon, Chauncey, Charles Oliver, Lawrence, David, Nelson, Roy and Harry and sisters Mary Fickes, Dorothy Eicher and F. Aldine Smith.

After raising her family, Becky received her GED at the age of 50.

Becky was a member of the Claysburg Church of the Brethren. She was employed at the Sproul Brickyard in the summer of 1947 and was later employed at Peggy’s Diner and the Ranch House Restaurant.

She enjoyed reading and faithfully supported her church.

Friends will be received Wednesday October 10, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg. Funeral services will be held at Noon on Thursday October 11, 2018 at the Claysburg Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Ron Bashore officiating. Interment at Sproul Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the Claysburg Church of the Brethren, the Claysburg Area Public Library or the Claysburg Food Bank.
