Carl Ruggles, 88, of East Freedom passed away Dec. 14, 2018 at Homewood, Martinsburg. He was born March 16, 1930 in East Freedom the son of William Gray and Pearl (McIlnay) Ruggles. He married Helen T. Dodson at St. Patrick’s Church, Newry, on November 11, 1950.
Surviving are his wife of 68 years, son Jeffrey (Janis) Ruggles of Hollidaysburg, daughter Elaine (Richard) Delozier, and son Michael (Amy) Ruggles both of East Freedom, six grandchildren Andrea Walker of Plains GA, Elizabeth Delozier of East Freedom, Jessica (Richard) Ramish of Hollidaysburg, Michael (Angela) Delozier of East Freedom, Lindsee (Dylan) Lamborn of Philadelphia, and Erin Ruggle of Pittsburgh, great grandchildren Kayla Delozier, Jack and Emily Ramish, and Bryce Delozier, sister Mary Parry of East Freedom, and a special nephew Gary (Barb) Ruggles of East Freedom.
He was preceded in death by brothers George, Melvin, Paul and Glenn and sisters Marie England, Sally Stine, and Ruth Ray.
Carl graduated from Roaring Spring High School as a member of the class of 1948. He served in the Air Force and was a member of the American Legion.
He retired from Appleton Papers as a supervisor in 1992 after 38 years of service. He later worked for Miller Funeral Home. He was a life member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where he served on the council and was a communion assistant for many years, He was the Charter President of the Freedom/Greenfield Lions Club and was a member of the Heidelberg Country Club. Carl enjoyed carpentry and gardening.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, at Miller Funeral Home, East Freedom. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Jean Caudill officiating. Interment will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Newry.
