Donald R. “Nick” Walter, 83, Claysburg, passed away Thursday July 26, 2018 at Nason Hospital. He was born on July 7, 1935 in Claysburg, son of the late Charles and Lenora “Nora” (Seymour) Walter.
Surviving are two sisters: Celia Deffibaugh, widow of George, of Sproul and Ruth Tipton and husband, Warren “Tip” of Claysburg, a brother, Robert “Bob” Walter of Claysburg; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Harry “Pete,” Charles and William Walter.
He retired from General Refractories, Claysburg, upon its closing, and when he was younger he drove a log truck. He previously attended Grace United Church of Christ, Claysburg.
Nick enjoyed hanging out at “Frank’s Place,” watching westerns on TV, hunting, fishing and gardening. He was an avid NASCAR fan.
Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018 at Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg. A celebration of life service will be held following the visitation at 7 p.m., Pastor Robert Penner officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
