George W. Hartman, 79, of Claysburg passed away Friday evening October 4, 2019, surrounded by his loving family at UPMC-Altoona. He was born March 18, 1940 in Duncansville, son of the late Floyd and Alma (Hoover) Hartman. He married Shirley Claar April 21, 1962 in Winchester, VA.
Surviving are his wife, 5 sons Jeffrey, Michael (Sherry), Dale (Brenda), Mark and Craig (Clarissa), 5 grandchildren Carrie, Justin, Megan, Brielle and Colby. 2 great grandchildren Aubrey and Austin and a sister Norma Jean Nickum. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers Donald, Robert Dean, Homer and Merle, 2 sisters Mildred Piper and an infant Eleanore and daughter-in-law Cheryl.
George was a 1958 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He served in the U.S. Army and retired from Champion Home Builders, Claysburg in 2003 after 36 years of service.
George enjoyed hunting, fishing, looking for deer and spending time outdoors, but his greatest joy was watching his sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor David Maxwell officiating. Interment at Upper Claar Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be given to the Claysburg Church of God Building Fund.
