Josephine L. Smith, 78, of Sproul, passed away Monday September 2, 2019 at Maybrook Hills. She was born October 10, 1940 in Sproul, daughter of the late Willard C. and Thelma D. (Jamison) Helsel. She married Gene M. Smith on June 8, 1957 in Klahr. He passed away November 8, 2004.

Surviving are two daughters Debra Markley (John) of Claysburg and Christine Dick (David) of Osterburg, two sons Ed Smith (Gail) of Claysburg and Dwane Smith (Lori) of Sproul, 8 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a sister Mary Aungst and three brothers Robert “Rip”, Wilbur “Buck” and Arthur Helsel. She was preceded in death by a grandson David, a brother Ross “Catfish” Helsel Sr. and a sister Carol Ann Calderwood.

Josephine was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, house plants and spending time with her grandchildren.

Private services were held at the convenience of the family. Interment was at Sproul Cemetery.
