Tessie "Sally" Helsel

Tessie “Sally” Helsel, 85, of Claysburg passed away Saturday October 20, 2018. She was born January 12, 1933 in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Raymond and Kathryn (Baughman) Gorman. On December 27, 1950, she married Eugene “Moxie” Helsel, who preceded her in death on May 18, 1981.

Surviving are a son Steven (Mary Kay) of Roaring Spring, a daughter Karen of Claysburg, a brother Sonny (Rose) Gorman of Duncansville, Claude (Kris) Feathers of Martinsburg and sister Dorothy Acker of New Mexico. She was preceded in death by a sister “Het” Imler, brothers Carl and Jim Gorman, son Michael and granddaughter Tina (daughter of Steve and Mary Kay)

Sally was a member of the Roaring Spring Mennonite Church, where she was a former member of the Ladies Aide. She was also a member of Senior Life, Altoona, where she made many new friends.

She enjoyed playing bingo, reading her bible, watching game shows and collecting snowmen. She especially liked to go to the Osterburg bank to see what she called her girls, Lisa Welch and Pam Batzle. When there was a picnic or gathering of any kind she was well known for her potato salad.

Friends will be received Tuesday October 23, 2018 from 3-7 P.M. and Wednesday October 24, 2018 from 10 A.M. until the 11:00 A.M. funeral service at the Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg, Pastor Elsie Gonsman officiating. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be given to the Claysburg Food Bank.
