Vera C. Gardner, 96, formerly of Claysburg, Mercer and Hollidaysburg passed away Thursday November 8, 2018 at Homewood at Martinsburg. She was born May 20, 1922 in Claysburg, daughter of the late Charles S. and Violet (Beegle) Madara. On April 5, 1947 in Cumberland, she married Gerald L. Gardner, who preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 2005.
Surviving are a son Gerald M. “Jerry” (Karen) Gardner of Duncansville, a daughter Kay (Denny) Burket of Claysburg, grandchildren Troy (Melissa) Gardner, Tricia Priel, Chris (Wendy) Burket and Jennie (Todd) Talstein, eight great grandchildren, and one step great grandson. She was preceded in death by a sister Geraldine Murray.
She was a 1942 graduate of Greenfield Twp. High School. She was a long-time member of Christ Lutheran Church. She was one of the founders of the Claysburg Public Library where she worked for four years. She also served as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Claysburg Union Cemetery Assn. for six year.
Friends will be received Tuesday November 13, 2018 from 1 P.M. and until the 2:00 P.M. funeral service at Christ Lutheran Church, Claysburg, with Pastor Jean Caudill officiating. Interment Bedford Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be given to her church, 206 Walnut St. or the Central Pa. Humane Society.
