Alvin R. Stombaugh, 90, a resident of Homewood at Martinsburg, formerly of Blue Knob, passed away Saturday January 9, 2021 at the home. He was born September 27, 1930 in Blue Knob, son of the late Frank and Martha (Berkhimer) Stombaugh. He was twice married, first to Mary Ann Hawser, who preceded him in death, and then married Karen Vaughn on January 8, 1972 in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife, 4 children Cheryl Gouker and husband Ed of Reading, Mark and wife Naneth in Texas, Brian and wife Rosemarie in Florida and Heather O’Rourke and husband Jim of Martinsburg, 7 grandchildren Kyle and Julie Weber, Garrett, Jared, Annamarie, and Andrew Stombaugh and Colin O’Rourke, a sister Rhea Costello and a brother David Stombaugh. He was preceded in death by sisters Iris Snare and L. Mardelle Stombaugh and a brother Richard.
Alvin was a 1948 graduate of Claysburg High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a lifetime member Mt. Hope United Church of Christ and retired as a technician from Verizon in 1992 after 36 years of service.
