Cathy A. Barnes, 68, of Blue Knob, passed away Tuesday March 30, 2021 at UPMC-Altoona. She was born on February 21, 1953 in Altoona, daughter of Mildred (Shaw) Helsel and the late Ralph Helsel. She married Barry Barnes on Oct. 11, 1980, in Blue Knob.
Surviving are her mother; her husband; three daughters: Sarah Ebersole, Megan (Travis) Clark and Lindsey (Aaron) Hobaugh; eight grandchildren: Makenzie, Cara, Bailey, Landon, Aubrey, Maverick and twins, Tenley and Ace; three sisters: Sue (Jim) Burger , Patty (Charles) Salyards and Christine (Kevin) Kabellar; two brothers, Kevin and Tim (Lisa) Helsel; brother-in-law, Jay Knipmeyer; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jake Ebersole; and sister, Amy Knipmeyer.
Cathy was a 1970 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and was employed at the Office of Unemployment Compensation and also did bookkeeping for Helsel Lumber and the Barnes Family Farm.
She was a member of Mt. Hope United Church of Christ, where she served on the Consistory. She also served as secretary for the Blue Knob Volunteer Fire Company and was a member of the Claysburg-Kimmel School Board.
Cathy enjoyed cake decorating for her family, activities and events at her church and community and spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
