David "Joe" Walters Arrrangement

David V. “Joe” Walters, age 75 formerly of Charger Highway Duncansville passed peacefully surrounded by his family, on Sunday, May 13, 2018 following an extended illness.

David was born December 19, 1942, in Altoona PA, to Daniel W. and Evalyn V. (Fogle) Walters.

On July 22, 1967, he married Sherrie L Huffman who preceded him in death on Aug 5, 2017.

Joe enjoyed gardening and took great pride in sharing the bounty of his vegetable garden, fruit trees, and rose bushes with family and friends. He valued his family above all and was their pillar of strength.  He always enjoyed spending time with his family and took great pride and joy in seeing their accomplishments.

Joe was a veteran of the US Air Force during Vietnam and was proud when his granddaughter Amber chose to follow in his footsteps. He retired from Fonda Group in 2004.

Surviving are his children, Shirley L. Kauffman (Patrick Reckart) of Williamsburg; Richard Reed of Fairmont WV; Rebecca L. Detwiler (Danny) of Hopewell and Mary A. Patton (John) of East Freedom, Pa.  Grandchildren; Travis, Danielle, Cory, and Lauren Kauffman; Dustin, Amber and Miranda Deterline; Mason and Braden Patton; Tracy (Reckart) Booker, Jason, Steven, and Thomas Reckart; and Zachary and Austin Detwiler. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, his parents, a sister Thelma Jones and brother Paul.

Joe had a great sense of humor and was able to tell tale tales without breaking a grin which earned him the affectionate nickname “Snowy.”  His family knew no matter the need he was there for them. By example, he taught his children to respect others and the value of being a man of his word. He will greatly missed but his family finds comfort in knowing he’s been reunited with his beloved wife.

For the past year, he was a resident at Countryside, Homewood in Martinsburg, Pa. His family would like to extend sincere, heartfelt thanks to the staff who provided such consistent, compassionate, excellent care each day and treated “Pap” like one of their own. Also immeasurable gratitude is extended to the nurses and caregivers of Grane Hospice, Duncansville, who have also provided such wonderful care over the last few years and have shown many unexpected acts of kindness.

Friends will be received from 5-8 P.M. on Thursday  May 17, 2018 at the Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday May 18, 2018 at the Funeral Home with Pastor James Neatrour officiating. Interment at Carson Valley Cemetery.
