Donald R. “Bud” Burket, 88, of Claysburg. passed away Wednesday February 22, 2023 at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, after a long battle with cancer. He was born October 23, 1934 in Claysburg, son of the late Charles S. and Genevieve (Dodson) Burket. He married Janet L. Nier on May 30, 1955, and she preceded him in death.

 

 

Surviving is a daughter Wendy L. Berkey, 5 grandchildren Jenny, Jason (Samantha), Mike (Kelly). Matt (Tara) Heather and 15 great grandchildren, Kayden, Kallynn, Kamryn, Jasmine, Logan, Bearett, Colton, Abel, Aeriella, Rylee, Neveah, Lilly, Layla, Dasean and Zamora. He was preceded in death by a son Randy R. Burket, a brother Richard L. Burket, a half brother Charles S. Burket Jr. and a half sister Vivian Feather.

 

 

Bud was a 1952 graduate of Greenfield-Kimmel High School, where he played basketball and baseball. He retired in 1978 as a self-employed businessman, retailing rifles, ammunition, hunting knives, two way radios, electronics and candy.

 

 

Bud enjoyed shooting rifles, BB guns and target practice with his grandsons, riding motorcycles with his brother, Dick, and naval aviation history. He also enjoyed hunting deer and turkey, fishing and was sympathetic and supporting of the Wounded Warrior Project.

 

 

He always made sure everyone was taken care of. He wanted only the best of success for all of us.

 

 

Dad, Pap… Go rest high on that mountain, son, your work on earth is done.
