Earl Ickes, 92, of Imler, passed away Monday April 11, 2022 at Altoona Center for Nursing Care. He was born January 19, 1930 in Bedford, son of the late Jeremiah and June (Weyandt) Ickes. He married Florence “Helene” McCreary on May 17, 1957 in Cumberland, MD. She preceded him in death on February 3, 2021.
Surviving are nephews Charles Wentz, Richard and Danny Ickes, nieces Kathy Bowser and Judy Feathers, his caregiver Michael Grasser and numerous other nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by sisters Grace Ickes and Mabel Ickes.
Earl retired from Hedstrom and then mowed fairways and greens at Bedford Springs for many years. He enjoyed hunting, watching NASCAR races and local dirt track races at the Bedford Speedway.
Earl was a U.S. Army Veteran, stationed in Alaska, and loved to tell a “good story” to anyone that would listen. He was usually a quiet gentle man.
A memorial service will be held at a later date for both Earl and his wife Helene at the request of the family.
