Frances M. Stiffler

Frances M. “Duck” Stiffler, 96, of Imler, was called to be with the Lord and many loved ones on Wednesday January 9, 2019, at Homewood at Martinsburg. She was born March 20, 1922 in Imler, daughter of the late John Austin and Virgie Viola (Fickes) Corle. She married Melvin C. Stiffler on August 14, 1941 and he preceded her in death on February 9, 1988.

She is survived by a daughter Robin (Bill) Woolridge of Imler, nine grandchildren; Gidget, Rick, Kim, Tracy, Michael, Wade, Wesley, Chelsea, and Macey, as well as 20 great-grandchildren, 15 great great-grandchildren, along with daughters-in-law Mary Lou Stiffler (Larry), Rose Marie Stiffler (Irvin), a brother Robert Corle Sr. (Barbara) and sister-in -law Laura Corle (Elias Warren), and numerous nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by sons Irvin and Larry Stiffler, two grandchildren Ryan and Bryan Stiffler, sisters; Jennie Hengst, Ethel Stiffler, Grace Walter, Iva Lingenfelter, and Mary Walter brothers; Lloyd, Elias “Boy” Warren, and Eugene Corle.

Frances was an active member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Imler, where served as the President of the Ladies Aid for several years and taught Sunday School. She was among the founders of the Imler Area Volunteer Fire Co. where she served as a first responder and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. In September, 1986 she joined the Chestnut Ridge Ambulance Service where she was a first responder, life member, board member (now emeritus) and received several awards and citations.  She enjoyed watching high school football and wrestling.

Friends will be received on Friday January 11, 2019 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Imler, from 3-8 PM and on Saturday January 12, 2019 from 10 AM until the 11 AM funeral service, with Pastor James Neatrour officiating. Interment will be at Imler Valley Cemetery.
