H. Scott Marriner, 72, a resident at the Hollidaysburg Lutheran Home, formerly of Claysburg, passed away Friday February 26, 2021 at the home. He was born September 18, 1948 in Washington, PA, son of the late Stephen D. and late RoseMary (Williams) Marriner.
Surviving are a daughter Christina Grace Claar and husband Shawn, granddaughters Emily Grace and Rebekah Grace Claar all of Imler, a sister Lester Lee Scotton (William) of Chestertown, MD, brother Stephen D. Marriner, Jr. (Linda) of Washington, PA, international brother Juan Carlos Bonelli of San Nicholas, Argentina who was an exchange student in his family home in 1965, several nieces and nephews. His former wife Brenda Marriner also survives.
Scott was a 1966 graduate of East Washington High School where he played basketball, football, and trumpet in the band, a 1970 graduate of Indiana University of PA with a BS in music, and a 1973 graduate of IUP with a Masters in Music. He began his teaching career in Claysburg-Kimmel Schools as the band director in 1970 and then became the choral director. He also coached Boy’s Jr. High basketball for many years. He retired in 2005 with 35 years of service.
Music was Scott’s life interest. He was the musical director for many high school and Claysburg Community Theater musicals, he was the choir director for the United Church of Christ and Christ Lutheran Church, Claysburg, Mt. Hope Youth Choir, Blue Knob, and the Altoona Horseshoe Chorus. He played/marched in the Claysburg American Legion Band, CK Alumni Band, and played the French Horn with the Johnstown Symphony. He especially loved to play the piano and gave private lessons for many years.
Scott enjoyed fishing and vacationing at the family home in Gwynn’s Island Virginia. He was a avid Claysburg Kimmel sports fan and especially enjoyed watching his granddaughters in band activities and playing softball, basketball, and volleyball.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am April 10, 2021 at Christ Lutheran Church, Claysburg.
