Harold “Boot” Walter, 96, of Claysburg, was called home to be with the Lord, on Thursday October 22, 2020 at Homewood at Martinsburg. He was born September 18, 1924 in Claysburg, son of the late Lloyd and Mary (Walter) Walter. He married Darlene Stayer on April 6, 1952 at the Curryville Church of the Brethren. She passed away on February 27, 2013.
Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, William Walter, who lived on the family farm with him. He was preceded in death by brothers Arthur “Pete” and Virgil Walter, a sister Esther Cafferty and brothers John and Paul, who died in infancy.
Boot was a 1942 graduate of Claysburg High School. He worked his entire life at his family’s farm in Cottontown. Boot enjoyed farm work, gardening, traveling to Florida in the winters with Darlene, spending time with family, and reading his Bible. He was a lifelong member of the Lower Claar Church of the Brethren, where he served as a deacon.
Friends will be received on Saturday, October 24, 2020 from 4 to 7 PM at the Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg. A funeral service will be held at the Lower Claar Church of the Brethren, at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 25, 2020, with Pastor John Winesickle officiating. Interment at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
