Joel G. Claar, 83,of Queen, passed away Sunday May 10, 2020 in the family home. He was born March 17, 1937, in Queen, son of the late Clyde and Mildred (Hainsey) Claar. He married Donna Berkhimer on April 6, 1963 in Winchester, VA.
Surviving are his wife Donna, of Queen, a son Wade of Millheim. a brother Jay and wife Lana of Queen, a niece Diane and nephews Rodney, Rocky, Brian and Eric. He was preceded in death by brothers Fred and Donald “Frog” Claar.
Joel was a 1956 graduate of Greenfield-Kimmel High School. He was a proud military veteran who served as a Combat Engineer in the U.S. Army, where his specialties included Demo and Mine warfare. He received a decoration for a Sharpshooter (Rifle M-1).
Joel retired as a machine operator from Blank Book Company in 2000. He attended Grace United Church of Christ, Claysburg. Joel’s favorate pastime was lawn and landscaping care. His other interests included football, Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers, auto racing, the late Dale Earnhart was his favorite, hunting/shooting sports, working on projects at his workbench, and he loved hanging out at his son’s place.
