John Elensky, 83, of East Freedom, passed away Friday December 25, 2020 at home, surrounded by family. He was born May 30, 1937 in Ralston, son of the late John Jr. and Annabell Mildred (Rowles) Elensky. He married Sandra L. Musselman on February 5, 1977 in Roaring Spring.
Surviving are his wife of East Freedom, a daughter Michele Keagy and husband Travis of Roaring Spring, a son Derek Elensky of East Freedom, granddaughter Allee, sisters Caroline Bonsall and husband Dave of Curwensville and Gail O’Donnell and husband Mike of Clearfield, brothers Kenneth Elensky and wife Elaine of Grampian and Francis Elensky and wife Becky of Curwensville, a special niece Dena Hoover, whom he considered a daughter, brother-in-law Rex Musselman and wife Denise, sister-in-law Janice Musselman and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law Dora Mae Musselman and brother-in-law Samuel Musselman Jr.
John was a 1955 graduate of Curwensville High School and received degrees in education from Lock Haven and Shippensburg University. He retired as a physical education and health teacher from Claysburg-Kimmel High School in 1993 after a 32 year career. While at the high school he served as head baseball coach, football coach and started and coached the wrestling program. He also coached and played baseball in the City League.
John was a member of the Upper Claar Church of the Brethren and served on the cemetery board as well as being the caretaker of the cemetery for many years.
He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, his camp in Potter County, watching sports with his son and spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter. John will be greatly missed by everyone who’s life he touched.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Claysburg Area Puiblic Library.
