John Adam Gonsman, 84, of Roaring Spring, formerly of Pavia, went home to be with the Lord, on Saturday January 16, 2021 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. He was born February 25, 1936 in Altoona, son of the late Adam Leo and Rachael (Lewis) Gonsman. He married Elsie (Feathers) Dively on November 20, 1989.
Surviving is his wife, a daughter Patricia Wasserman and husband Dave, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren all of Bakersfield, CA, two stepdaughters Ellen Bender and husband Rick of Alum Bank and Lora Banks and husband Gene of Natrona Heights, five step granddaughters and fourteen step great grandchildren. Also surviving are siblings George Gonsman of Dunnellon, FL, Grace Siegfried of Stuarts Draft, VA, Fred Gonsman and wife Judy of Everett, Sarah Romero and husband Sil of San Antonio, FL, Joe Gonsman and wife Val of Lenoir, NC, Charlie Gonsman and wife Evelyn of Six Mile Run and a sister-in-law Gloria Gonsman of Claysburg. He was preceded in death by sisters Violet Martz and Jane Howsare and a brother Dave Gonsman.
John was a member of Roaring Spring Mennonite Church. He was a 1954 graduate of Robert P. Smith High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1963 and was stationed in Germany. After he was discharged, he lived and worked in Germany for 23 years at the Army Airforce Exchange System, until retiring in 1987, when he returned to Pennsylvania. John enjoyed fishing.
Friends will be received on Wednesday January 20, 2021 from 10 A.M. until the 11:00 A.M. funeral service at the Roaring Spring Mennonite Church, 235 Main Street, Roaring Spring, with Pastor Elsie Gonsman officiating. Interment at Pavia Cemetery.
