Richard “Dick” Gonsman, 89, of Claysburg, passed away Sunday March 12, 2023 at the Village at Morrisons Cove. He was born July 5, 1933 in East Freedom, son of the late Marie Glass. He married Joan Stratton, on March 17, 1953 in Cumberland, MD. She preceded him in death on September 12, 2022.
Surviving is a son Dr. Richard Gonsman and wife Dottie of Hollidaysburg, a daughter Susan Gonsman-Burket of Queen 4 grandchildren Cody Burket of East Freedom, Brian Gonsman of Blue Knob, Mark Gonsman of Truckie, CA and Julie Buterbaugh of Elizabethtown and 2 great grandchildren Liam and Evan Buterbaugh of Elizabethtown.
Dick was a 1952 graduate of Greenfield-Kimmel High School. He served as a radio specialist, in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War. He retired as a wholesale food salesman in 1995, and after retirement he did carpentry work in the area.
Dick was a member of the Claysburg American Legion and bowled in a Sunday Night League for many years. He enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events and doing carpentry work for his family.
Friends will be received from 3 P.M. until the 5:00 P.M. funeral service on Sunday March 19, 2023 at the Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg with Pastor Calvin Miller officiating. Interment at Alto-Reste Park.
