Richard J. Long, 78, of Imler, passed away Tuesday April 21, 2020 at the Altoona Center for Nursing Care. He was born March 18, 1942 in Imler, son of the late Richard C. and Olive B. (Way) Long. He married Lucy Bowser May 9, 1964 in Imler.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Lucy, three daughters Pamela Horn and significant other Bill Bowser, Patrcia Karama, and Paula Shumaker and husband Dave, a son Richard A. “Rick” Long and significant other Beth Dunlap and her children Alex and Zoey, six grandchildren Logan and Aaron Horn, Nora Karama, Rachel (Andrew) Weyler, Tasha Shumaker and Zachery Long and two sisters Edith Hoenstine and husband Earl and Patricia Koontz and husband Roy.
Dick was a 1960 graduate of Chestnut Ridge High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Imler, where he sang in the choir and was active in many church activities.
He retired as a manager at Hedstrom in 2004 after more than 30 years of service and then drove school van for Maxwell Transport for over 10 years.
Dick was a member of the Claysburg American Legion Band and enjoyed reading, woodworking and going to his camp at Treasure Lake.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2020, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Imler. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Pastor James Neatrour officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the Mock Cemetery by the Bedford Honor Guard.
