Russell E. Helsel

Russell E. Helsel, 76, of Osterburg, passed away Friday August 28, 2020 at UMPC-Altoona, after a long battle with diabetes. He was born September 16, 1943 in Osterburg, son of the late Marshall and Daisy (Claycomb) Helsel. He married Janice E. Adams on February 22, 1969 in East Sharpsburg. They were together 46 years, until her death on November 18, 2015. He was also preceded in death by a baby sister Norma Jean Helsel.

Russell is survived by a sister-in-law- Lois Adams and several cousins.

He was a graduate of Chestnut Ridge High School and always looked forward to the reunions. He was a farmer and was employed as a paper carrier for the Altoona Mirror, Bedford Gazette and Shoppers Guide.

Russell was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Imler and the Imler Area Volunteer Fire Company. He enjoyed watching Fox News Channel and was an avid Trump supporter. He will be missed by his two best friends, Yippee and Miss Kitty, who he though the world of.

Friends will be received from noon until the 1:00 P.M. funeral service on Tuesday September 1, 2020 at the Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg, Pastor Calvin Miller officiating. Interment at Imler Valley Cemetery.
