Ruth Naomi Long

Ruth Naomi Long, 101 a resident of Homewood at Martinsburg, was promoted to Glory on Tuesday June 7, 2022. She was born on or about September 5th, 1920 to Ulysses Grant Peifer and Lottie Jane (Hauck) Peifer in Sunbury, PA. After the death of her mother, about the age of 2, she was adopted by John Daniel Green and Grace Irene (Gonser) Green of Sunbury, PA.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Miles Emerson Long and by her three siblings, Sarah Jane McClarin, Theodore Peifer, and Clara Irene Miller. She is survived by a son, John (Pat) Long of Narvon, PA and a daughter Sandra (John) Vedder of Sierra Vista, AZ

Ruth graduated from Sunbury High School in 1938 and the Potts Business College in Williamsport, PA. After marriage she lived in Pinecroft for over 60 years and was active in several Christian and community groups (Child Evangelism, Mountain View Bible Camp, 4-H Clubs, Girl Scouts, Bellwood Farm Show). She worked as a secretary at Penn State-Altoona in the ‘60s. Ruth enjoyed gardening, swimming and painting. In 2007 she moved to a cottage at Homewood and enjoyed years of activities and friendship with the residents there. 

Ruth fellowshipped with Christians at the Juniata Gospel Chapel, Queen Gospel Chapel and East Freedom Chapel. She was active in the SundaySchool, Bible study, and summer Bible camp work. Her greatest gift to her family and friends was their knowledge that she had accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and is now with Him.  

Family and friends will be received on Saturday June 11, 2022 from 1:30 until the 3:30 P.M. funeral service at Miller Funeral Home, East Freedom with Mr. David Harper officiating.  Interment at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
